Location: Brooklyn, NY (5 Days onsite)

Duration: 6 months Contract

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced System Administrator with expertise in Data Center Consolidation, VMware and server virtualization and decommissioning efforts at our client's site. This role will primarily focus on reducing the hardware footprint of the data center by migrating physical servers to virtual environments and consolidating existing virtual machines (VMs). L2 Wintel+ VMware engineer 7-10 years of experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Server Identification & Decommissioning:

Analyze the current server environment to identify underutilized or unused servers.

Safely decommission redundant servers, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

Physical to Virtual (P2V) Migration:

Lead the consolidation of physical servers into the VMware virtual environment where applicable.

Execute P2V migrations, ensuring seamless integration into the existing infrastructure.

Server Consolidation Support:

Provide support for server consolidation efforts, ensuring effective management of both physical and virtual resources.

Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate consolidation activities.

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution:

Proactively identify and troubleshoot issues related to server migration and consolidation.

Work closely with IT teams to resolve technical challenges in real-time.

Server Upgrades & End-of-Life Management:

Upgrade servers that are approaching end-of-life, ensuring continuity of services.

Propose cost-effective and reliable upgrade strategies.

Best Practices & Automation Implementation

Recommend industry best practices for server management and consolidation.

Identify opportunities for automation to streamline operational efficiency and reduce manual interventions.

Infrastructure Optimization & Enhancement:

Conduct a thorough assessment of the current infrastructure and suggest improvements to optimize performance.

Recommend infrastructure enhancements based on workload analysis and future scalability needs.

Qualifications:

Proven experience with IT infrastructure consolidation, server migrations (P2V), and VMware environments.

Strong knowledge of both physical and virtual server environments, particularly Windows servers.

Hands-on experience with server decommissioning and consolidation processes.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to server migrations.

Knowledge of best practices in IT automation and infrastructure optimization.

Good to have:

Familiarity with healthcare industry applications and legacy systems is a plus.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and within a team.

Linux server knowledge.

Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
